Our Commitment
Midlands Co-op believes that corporate social responsibility touches every aspect of its business. Its Social Accountability Policy, recognises as key stakeholders: employees, members, customers, suppliers, the wider community and the environment.
Fundamental to our business strategy is a very clear alignment with our stakeholders. In today's world consumers are increasingly taking an interest in what lies behind the services and goods they buy. The rise of ethical consumerism, climate change, fairtrade, chemicals and GM food, all influence customer loyalty.
Our Social Accountability Steering Group coordinates processes and procedures aimed at ensuring that the Society maximises the beneficial impacts of its initiatives and minimises any adverse impacts its activities may have on stakeholders. These cover key areas such as waste recovery and recycling, emissions control, energy utilisation and community involvement. Key to the success of the Society's activities is the full engagement of its staff, to whom a clear commitment to corporate social responsibility is a powerful motivating force.
There is a lot of positive work going on within the Society and this website outlines progress made over the past year in how the Society has met its responsibilities.
