Store Worker Raises £390 for BHF
7 May
A Syston store worker raised £390 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) by holding a skipping challenge on Thursday 1 May.
Ruth Brown, who works at Midlands Co-op’s High Street Supermarket, said: “I wanted to do something that not only raises money for charity but also raises awareness of heart disease. Exercising is vital to keep your heart healthy so I challenged myself to skip for half an hour without stopping and raise £200 for BHF, which would equate to funding a BHF scientist for a whole day.
“I was over the moon when we reached the £200 target; and further money from a cake stall helped push the total to a fantastic £390.
“I would like to thank everyone that donated or bought a cake, and also my colleagues who have been a great support in organising the stall and cheering while I was jumping.”
Every two minutes someone in the UK has a heart attack and there are more than 2.6 million people now living with heart disease – a long term and debilitating condition.
The BHF is the nation’s heart charity, committed to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care and vital information. It relies on the generosity and support of people and businesses like Midlands Co-op to continue its life-saving work.
