Midlands Co-operative Society has announced plans to extend the number of stores in which it will be selling Euros this summer.

Since June 2005, Midlands Co-op supermarket customers have been able to pick up their holiday currency alongside their bread and milk and other groceries in 22 selected stores* across its trading area.

This year, from May, a further 50 stores** will be providing the service to Midlands Co-op customers.

Julie Tyler, Operations Manager at Midlands Co-op, explained: “This facility has proved so popular that we have decided to extend it to more supermarkets across our trading area.

“It is particularly beneficial to those customers who use our village stores or who simply want the convenience of being able to pick up currency with their shopping.”

Customers simply request the Euros at the till at the time of paying for their shopping and a member of staff arranges for the currency’s collection.

The packs are commission-free and are broken down into sensible denominations – including small notes to pay the taxi-driver! The only restrictions on customers are that the maximum purchase is £750 in any single transaction and they cannot return unused notes to the shop where they were purchased. There is no need to order the packs in advance.

The supermarkets where the Euros are on sale complement the availability of Euros and other commission-free currency from the Society’s Midlands Co-op Travel and Ilkeston

Co-op Travel shops.
