Caldecott residents are today saying thank-you to community retailer, Midlands Co-op for the new curtains and cistern that have been installed at their village hall.
Caldecott Village Hall is the community centre of the neighbourhood and is well used by villagers and friends from the surrounding area. Serving the village’s 300 residents, it caters for residents of all ages and offers a wide range of activities. Clubs held at the hall include a pre-school playgroup, a youth club, a drop in group for the over 60s, a gymnastics club and a bowls club.
Secretary of the hall, June Gower commented: “Caldecott is a small friendly village which makes good use of its Village Hall. The facility is a vital part of the community and brings together people of all interests and ages. Our old curtains had seen better days and we needed a new combi cistern to save having to boil up endless kettles of water at functions. We were already raising money to update our toilet facilities and needed additional help with our funding. We approached Midlands Co-op who, I’m delighted to say, were able to help.”
Midlands Co-op donated the money from its Making a Difference Community Dividend fund, which guarantees that a percentage of its trading profit is donated to local groups in its trading area.
Cyrrhian Macrae, Midlands Co-op’s Head of Community & Co-operative Affairs, added:
“As a community retailer Midlands Co-op is delighted to help the residents of Caldecott. The Hall provides a vital facility to the villagers, and the clubs that are held there cater for a wide range of people with a variety of interests. We are sure that Caldecott Village Hall will continue to provide a focal point for the village and we hope its members enjoy its new fixtures and fittings.”
