The Co-operative Elephant Trail Pinotage Shiraz, 2008 (South Africa)
Grapes for this intriguingly-named wine were harvested at the end of March, after a steady ripening period which has allowed a pleasant balance of acidity and rounded fruit flavours. The Co-operative Rioja Puerta Colorada, 2006 (Spain)
This is a modern-style Rioja made exclusively for the Co-operative by winemaker Julián Murúa at Bodegas Muriel located in Elciego in La Rioja. It is 100% Tempranillo, hand-harvested from bush vines with an average age of 30 years. After vinification in stainless steel, the wine spent six months in new American oak barrels. A vivid, violet colour with primary aromas of red fruits and hints of liquorice, it shows forward fruit on the palate and is well structured with smooth tannins and a good length.

Food Suggestion

It is ideal with red meat dishes especially steak and game, but is also delicious with rich, tomato-based pasta dishes.
