1. What is a Co-op?
The accepted definition of a co-operative is ‘an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs’. Whilst organised co-operation is probably as old as mankind, it was the Rochdale Pioneers who set up their successful retail co-operative back in 1843, and gave us the basis for Co-operative Values and Principles that co-operatives worldwide sign up to today. It is these Co-operative Values and Principles that set us apart from other businesses.

5. What are your views on corporate social responsibility?
Midlands Co-op believes that corporate social responsibility touches every aspect of its business. Its Social Accountability Policy, approved by the Board of Directors in June 2002, recognises as key stakeholders: employees, members, customers, suppliers, the wider community, and the environment.

A cross-Society Social Accountability Steering Group is establishing processes and procedures aimed at ensuring that the Society maximises the beneficial impacts of its initiatives in order to minimise any adverse impacts its activities may have on stakeholders. These cover areas such as waste recovery and recycling, emissions control, energy utilisation, and community involvement. Fundamental to the Society’s social responsibility activities is the full engagement of its staff. Midlands Co-operative Society Limited is committed to serving its local communities – every time you shop at one of our trading outlets, you are helping us to help you. If convenient, the product should be returned to the store it was purchased from and our staff will be pleased to assist you. Otherwise please let us know how we may assist you by sending your comments from this page. We will respond to your enquiry within 5 working days.

We regularly update our Food offers to tie in with instore Megadeals and Buy One Get Free promotions. 6. Where can I find your latest Non Food offers?
Our Non Food offers are also regularly updated for sales and special promotions on the website. We promote electrical items, homewares, furnishings and seasonal items, such as our Garden Time promotion in the summer months.

Travel

7. How can I make my travel arrangements with you?
Midlandsco-op Travel sell holidays, flights and travel-related services in a variety of ways giving you the flexibility and personalised service to book when you want to. Travel shop, teletext or internet – the choice is yours. Our call centres are open 7 days a week, from 8am to 10pm on weekdays, and until 6pm at weekends. View our travel websites here.
