Motor Neurone Disease Association: our staff-elected charity for 2010 and 2011
In the past 11 years, colleagues from Midlands Co-operative Society have raised over £2 million for charity. The 2008/2009 campaign came to a close in December, raising an astonishing £584,000 for the British Heart Foundation.
For 2010 and 2011 Midlands Co-operative is proud to be supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association), as voted for by the Society’s employees from a shortlist provided by the Society's charity committee.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rapidly progressive fatal disease which attacks the nerves that send messages from the brain to the muscles. Imagine a healthy mind trapped inside a body that can’t move but can still feel: that’s the devastating reality of MND.
Kristine Knox, MND Association Chief Executive, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen by Midlands Co-operative as its corporate charity partner. The progress made in the care and support of people with MND is staggering, but the need for support remains urgent, so a big thank you for supporting our charity. We are looking forward to working with Midlands Co-operative on what I’m sure will be a very successful and fun filled two years.”
Stephen Beresford, PR and Marketing Manager for Midlands Co-operative, echoed these sentiments: “Our previous campaigns – most recently with BHF – have all been very successful, and we are looking to continue that with the MND Association. Our partnership means that the charity can continue to provide equipment, care and support to people living with MND in Midlands Co-operative’s trading area, improving the quality of life for people in our local community.”
