Travel agents in Birmingham stepped back in time recently, when they held a ‘Summer of Love’ sixties themed event to raise money for charity.

Staff at the Midlands Co-op Travel shop in, High Street, Erdington dusted off their kaftans and flares for the event, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, on Saturday 23rd August.

As well as dressing up, the shop held various fundraising events, ranging from flower power children’s colouring contests and ‘60s themed charity competitions to the sale of British Heart Foundation merchandise.

Anna Melling, Midlands Co-op Travel Regional Sales Manager, said: “We thought that holding a sixties event would be great fun for staff and customers. It’s also a brilliant way of getting into the spirit of the hippy philosophy of spreading love and happiness by raising much needed funds for our staff-elected charity, the British Heart Foundation.

“Staff are always thinking of ways to raise more money for BHF which is why, as an organisation, we’ve raised over £100,000 for the charity in the first half of the year. The Summer of Love event was great fun for customers with lots of activities in aid of the British Heart Foundation.”

Midlands Co-op Travel, which incorporates Ilkeston Co-op Travel, is the region’s largest independent travel business. As it is not owned by a tour operator or airline it is able to offer the best deals available to a wide variety of holiday companies as well as providing other travel related services such as insurance, commission-free currency and car hire.
